Cell Phone Policy

Overton Cell Phone Policy

Teachers

Establish and enforce norms regarding the disposition of cell phones in classroom.

If a student violates the policy and refuses to release the cell phone, proceed with the following:

(1) notify the academy office of the violation and (2) write a referral in Infinite Campus to be processed later.

Students

Cell phone use is prohibited in the classroom. Before class begins, the student, at teacher discretion, must comply with either of the following: (1) silence and conceal the cell phone and all electronic devices or (2) release cell phone and all electronic devices to teacher until the end of class period.

Students are only permitted to use cell phones and headphones in the cafeteria during lunch and in hallways between classes. Any student in violation of the policies outlined above who fails to release the cell phone will move to tier four on the tiered consequences list.

The MNPS Code of Conduct Code 203 states, “Using a cell phone, electronic device, or the internet for noneducational purposes or without the permission of the classroom teacher or school administrator.”
